How s.alleway started their web page design journey
Who are you known as?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Our website is primarily an advertising platform for our company and services. Target audience = Corporate clients who have a requirement for transfer pricing services (usually we deal with the Head of Tax, Controller, or CFO), also intermediaries (e.g. Law Firms, Accounting Firms & Tax Advisors, who may have clients who need our services). It is important for us to give a very professional 1st impression, demonstrate our technical competence and showcase our global network of offices. We currently have offices in Zurich, and Amsterdam, but will expand to Copenhagen in Sept. and possibly other places later this year. We pride ourselves on being a very innovative consultancy firm, with a strong focus on IT and systems. Therefore, it is important for us to show a really well designed, distinctive, and innovate website, whilst keeping a premium professional feel to the website.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the web page?
We actually designed our current website ourselves (using a template web design program - Freewaypro). We will now get our website coded professionally (html/CSS with mobile version etc). Basically, although the website looks nice on a Mac, the colours aren't as vibrant on a PC. We also recognise that template based website design packages are limited and we want to upgrade/improve our site, without starting completely from scratch, since we were quite happy with our initial efforts.
At this stage we are looking to identify a designer we can work with long term. We also want a fairly consistent design on each page, accepting some differences. Therefore, for this competition please select one of our main pages from our current website to showcase your concept/ideas/theme.
What to avoid
Too many colours. Bright neon colours. Clip art (any). Icons that have a jokey or cartoon character. Shadows, 3D art, metallic finishes. We really don't like the stock business photos that are widely used (business men shaking hands in a meeting, people getting on or off private jets). Symbols or pictures of boats, cars, airplanes, oil tankers, or anything that is a lazy association with business/working internationally, or having clients. Piles of money, bank vaults, people drinking Vodka. Animals and nudity (any) is obviously not going to win us clients, or at least not ones looking for our type of services :-)
We would like to find a designer we can work with longer term on our website and also other design projects. We haven't yet chosen a web design company to do the coding of our new site, so any recommendations are gratefully received. We decided to split design and coding, since we believe in the importance of "design" on its own.
