Professionals in healthcare, information technology, emergency services and many other fields have credentials to maintain and continuing education hour requirements to fulfill.
Certce.com is a web application that takes the headaches out of keeping track of all this. Individuals can easily keep their certification and continuing education (ce) information in one place and get reminders about upcoming expirations and important information making renewal easier. Instructors have one place to keep track of information about courses taught, including who they were taught to and what material was presented. Employers can get information about expirations and ce's for all of their employees from one place.
1) professionals who are tired of scrambling to find continuing education information in email, on scraps of paper, and from disparate websites when it comes time to renew professional certifications, 2) Their instructors who are frustrated by having to re-mail ce certificates to every other person they taught to 6 months ago who lost the original certificate and sick of using paper and excel spreadsheets to track courses taught and to whom, and 3) employers who can't afford to lose work hours because employees' credentials have expired.
These will initially be younger audiences who are familiar with computers and the web, but the product should be accessible to all adult age groups and skill levels.
You are designing the UI concept for the dashboard / main page of CertCE.com. This will be the page that users see after logging in.
We want a simple, elegant application that is easy to use. Design emphasis should be on simplicity and flow. It should be obvious how to do what I am trying to do.
The page should have a clear header, body and footer. The design should be done in a professional, simple "web 2.0" style and should not look too cartoonish or flashy.
Colors and design should fit or base on the attached logos.
What we don't want: clutter, confusion, too many colors.

Finally... we've worked with clients before and we get that people don't always know exactly what they want. We've described what we think we want, but don't be afraid to punt and show us something cool if you think it is in line with the overview and targets described above.
From this page, users can see their recent continuing education and certification information, along with any alerts about actions that need to be taken. They can also access product features for instructors and employers if they are using them. Help is easy to access. The logo should be in the header, but the header should be no larger than necessary.
Attached is a mockup of what we have dreamed up. Don't think we want exactly this though. We think this one is getting a little too cluttered and complex.
Mint for the way it displays a lot of information without getting complicated.
Wufoo for odd color use that works and awesome tabs.
Delicious... speaking of simple
