UPDATE: Please see the brief for a link to a sample wireframe of the site. Use this wireframe to better understand the importance of each content area. Your design doesn't have to exactly match the wireframe.
UPDATE 2: We now have a pretty good idea of what our menus and navigation structure should be. We welcome your suggestions, but if you don't have any please use what we propose. See the brief for details.
A senior services consumer information and rating site requires a re-design of home page and any one content page. Design only, no coding.
Please read the full brief and refer to our guidelines document. Logo artwork provided.
Please deliver as layered PSD files.
We will provide at least daily feedback and design ratings, if not more frequent.
UPDATE - Wireframe: Please see the wireframe to better understand the importance of content on the page. We encourage your creativity and do not require that your design matches the wireframe. The wireframe is also available in layered PSD format.
UPDATE - Menus & Navigation: Our navigation menu should have 4 top level options with sub-options. We envision these sub-options being popup menus on rollover and not needing to be part of your design. But if you want to show what the popup menu would look like it, that would be nice. See the menus and navigation document for details.
Home Page redesign. The home page should be completely redesigned. Only the logo, the map, and the text size control should remain, but even these elements can be altered or updated to some degree. Add a section on page for links to most recent Expert Articles and a section for links to featured Expert Articles. Add a sign up for mailing list feature.
Content Page redesign. Pick one content page and redesign it. Choose city selection, category selection, business listing, business details, report details, add business, or submit report pages. Make sure there is room for advertising on all content page designs.
Quickly illustrate purpose of site and content. The main goal of this update is to enable visitors to the site to quickly and easily understand what the site is all about and encourage them to explore deeper into the site. Simple. Clean. Fresh. Inviting.
Remove the "wordiness". We want to remove the "wordiness" of the site and content pages. Get visitors involved without having so much to read, but still let them understand what the site or content page is about.
Updated Navigation. See update #2 above. We are looking for an overhaul of the site navigation. Some new sections are being added to the site that the navigation will need to incorporate. See the contest guidelines document for full details.
Room for Advertising. Space for advertising must remain, preferably with room for additional ads. Ad sizes can be changed as long as standard IAB guidelines are used. The goal is to make advertising easily seen, but not blatant or appear too cluttered. Ads on home page and content pages.
For the best chances of winning this contest, we suggest you review our guidelines document. It goes into more detail about each of the elements above. It also includes links to competitor sites, sites we like, and sites we dislike. Original logo artwork is available as well.
We are using YUI Grids for CSS layout. Please make sure that width dimensions of areas on a page can be divided into 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, or 3/4 of the width of the surrounding parent area.
Keep in mind that visitors often enter the site via google searches, so any page on the site could be the initial landing page. There should be enough information on all pages that a new person to the site can determine the purpose of the site.
