I'm an ex poker blogger who has moved on to be an executive for a major online poker site. You can find my blog at http://cardsspeak.servebeer.com for more background. The basic "personality" of the site is sort of a dummies guide to poker statistics and poker tools, with the goal of helping people improve their game.
Anyone who plays online poker and is willing to improve their game. This includes players from every country across the world and every language. Typically these are males between 25 and 40 who aren't scared to put in some study time and work in order to improve their game.
I am looking for a site that evokes a feeling of cool, calculating, statistical analysis but doesn't intimidate people. The site offers a "cookbook" for tools that allow people to make the most of their poker game by looking at their own statistics and those of other players.
The idea is that if you buy this book, the money you'll make from what you learn will be far more than the cost of the book.
The design should be "professional" and "serious" looking, while not intimidating.
I like clean, simple design -- sites like mint.com and seobook.com have some of my favorite designs.
I don't really like the current logo (or current design), so there is plenty of freedom in that area. In fact I don't like the current site much at all -- it was designed by a friend without a brief.
The actual e-book is being rewritten and I'll eventually want a new logo for both the book and the site, but I'd like to focus on the site first.

My partner added some valuable input that I think should help guide the design:
--Good colors are: green, red, black, and white
--Too much red is bad
--Black designs need to be very carefully designed and done with high contrast when it comes to font
--Fonts are extremely important: professional and clean fonts are required if you want to win this contest.
--A big part of the site design will be visual, graphical content. We need to leave space for a "hero shot" that shows off a nice-looking graph or screen shot. e.g. a better version of this: http://pokertrackerguide.com/images…older6.jpg
