A council are looking for a fresh and modern look for their “safer community” website that brings together various organisations such as the Police, Fire Authority, Housing Association, Youth Teams etc etc.
Good feedback given on all entries, as per my previous contests. I have awarded on all of my previous contests.
Please submit your design ASAP to ensure there is enough time to get feedback and make modifications by the end of the competition.
Please ensure that the image is provided in a format that I can open in either Fireworks or Photoshop. It must be a layered file I can edit. No coding is required.
Toolkit: http://www.plasticbox.co.uk/99designs/hart.zip This contains images of the area for the montage (see further below) and the logo.
Safer Hart is part of a local council that provides information to the community of the safety of the area, such as policing, anti social behaviour, graffiti etc. They are looking for a modern and fresh site that enables residents to access the site and find out more about Safer Hart and what the organisation are doing. The site should have a friendly feel to it, and shouldn’t be too corporate looking.
The colour scheme is fairly flexible, although should contain some elements of the colour used within the logo provided. A work pack can be downloaded at: which contains the logo and photos to be used within the site. To make it easy, these have been scaled down – I will provide higher quality versions to the winning designer, so don’t worry about their size, I do have some very high quality versions.
The client is keen to see a nice vibrant, bright, clean and modern looking website.
The client has pointed out the following examples of sites they like (and all are for similar projects in other parts of the UK):
http://www.saferhastings.co.uk/aboutus.htm - they particularly like the image montage
The client is particularly keen on their being a “montage” of the area, using the photos included. Particularly good images that should be used are:
The navigation must run down the left hand column – ultimately this will be a text driven navigation bar, although don’t let that hold you back as I can make CSS do whatever is required to make it look nice! There will need to be "fly out" menus for sub menus. The main content will sit in the middle, with a footer bar below.
Navigation Bar (must be vertical): Please use the following for the navigation bar (which will have main sections and sub sections. The sub sections will be "fly out" sub menus

Main Content text:
Community Safety is concerned with working on a multi agency level to tackle issues, which affect people’s quality of life within the Hart District.
The ‘Safer Hart’ Partnership is concerned primarily with reducing crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour and consists of more than 20 partnership agencies, acting in proactive and retrospective initiatives.
The Safer Hart Community Safety Partnership was established as a result of the 1998 Crime and Disorder Act, and now encompasses more than 20 partnership agencies.
The Partnership seeks to establish common ground, to pool resources, powers and expertise to facilitate a comprehensive response to community needs and wishes, whilst raising the understanding of community safety issues and improving the qualify of life for local people.
A multi agency approach, allows for the tackling of crime on a both reactive and proactive level, ensuring the partnership tackles the root causes of crime.
The main content should include 3 boxes at the top as “teasers” to direct visitors to various parts of the site. These will be updated quite often, and would be nice to be able to fit a small photo into each, but this is not essential.
Simply write the below for now - I will add full copyright information etc in at a later date, but for now:
Safer Hart part of Hart District Council
I think the "wants" describe everything nicely!
It mustn’t look too boring and corporate. Remember this is a local council organisation, not a business.
