AdamE got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Come show us what you've got! We're looking for a long term, go-to web designer.
Check out AdamE's Web page design contest…
We are a small company that has a great relationship with the professional photographer community in the USA and abroad. We provide high quality online (eCommerce) shopping cart systems to thousands of professional photographers all around the world. The target audience for the site that you will be designing is professional photographers looking for a way to sell their prints online. Most photographers visiting our site will already have a basic idea about the services we provide, so the main purpose of the site is to convince them to go with us rather than one of our competitors. As a side note, we've recently lost our go-to designer due to some circumstances beyond our control, and we are hoping to find a designer that we can trust with future work as well. We always have something in the works, and we are in need of a high quality reliable designer to work with us on our other projects. If you can show us that you know what you're doing, we'd love to see a longer-term relationship develop from this design contest.
The site design that we have right now has been in place for the past 5 or 6 years. It is a bit dated, and needs a serious makeover. The new design must be fully functional and scalable on mobile devices. With this I mean that the images and page elements should be able to auto-resize and adjust based on the viewable area on the visitor's device. Although this requirement may sound like a coding requirement, I believe that it all starts with the design and the coder just makes the magic happen. So when you are creating your design ideas, pay attention to how they would look on mobile devices in addition to how they will look on full-screen monitors. There are many new design techniques and trends that have emerged since our existing site was designed six years ago, and we are hoping to get multiple entries that utilize some of the newer trends and design best practices. Feel free to play around with flat designs, parallax scrolling designs, simple textures, responsive typography, etc. We are open to most ideas right now. Every year we hold a photography contest for our photographers, and the winning images are incorporated into the main website for a certain period of time. We would like to continue that tradition, and the new design should contain places for the winning entries from that contest. These can be built right into the site design. They should not stand-out from the rest of the site, but they should be used instead as a part of the overall design. Since we are dealing primarily with professional photographers (who think very much like passionate designers), we need the site to *pop* with clean design elements and images. Custom drawn graphics, clever use of imagery, etc. will get you bonus points in this contest.
You can view our existing site to see what we currently have on these pages. The new design should contain basically the same information, but should be significantly redesigned and reworked. If you feel that some of the pages should be somehow combined or eliminated, feel free to make a suggestion in that direction. What to avoid
Avoid making the site look like we purchased it from a template design package. We are not looking for something cheesy and generic. We are also not looking for something that takes 30 seconds to load. It must be quick and responsive.
I appreciate your efforts and your time. Good luck to all of you!
