UP-ET got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Clean Energy Projects Trading Platform Website Design
Check out UP-ET's Web page design contest…
Founded by four experienced entrepreneurs, Ecopower will from its launch date be the world’s largest trading platform for clean energy projects. Such energy projects are e.g. photovoltaic installations, wind power stations, hydroelectric stations, or biomass-based energy plants. The primary objective of our platform is to facilitate easy and reliable trading of renewable energy projects by connecting all stakeholders with each other, and with available energy projects. Different customer groups, important to distinguish e.g. on main page: - Investors (looking for projects): seeking to buy or lease land, build installations, or to buy an already functional installation - Land owners/Developers (offering projects): offering to to sell or lease out their land/rooftop, or offer functioning projects - General contractors (offering projects): General contractors or technology providers managing the installation process from the start until electricity is generated What are projects: - Projects: For the primary market, this could be a piece of land, a rooftop, with or without associated building rights; for the secondary market, this could be a functional installation Our platform will contain several thousand energy projects. It is mainly a B2B platform, servicing customers worldwide in more than 20 different languages.
Currently in stealth phase, but similar competitors listed below
We would like to be represented as a company best described as: - Reputable (“seriös”), - Trustworthy, transparent - Professional, - Experienced (e.g. space for testimonials) - International (language selection for >20 languages), The offering needs to be: Well structured, Lean, Easy-to-use Our vision is to accelerate the world’s energy revolution (thoughts: green future, ecological, clean) by connecting investors to projects.
The two pages to be designed are the main page, and the search results page Header/Top section (common section on all pages on the website): - Logo - A navigation bar with 5 sections (Investors, Projects, Developers, Land Owners, MyEcopower), and approx. 5-8 items in each section. - A language selection - Login-/Signup-Box (login through platform/facebook/linkedin/twitter) - Clear indication if user is logged in or not Footer section (common section on all pages of the website) includes: - Testimonials - Newsletter signup - Social section to share the page (tweet/facebook) - General footer Content section: (1) The MAIN PAGE should clearly communicate what the platform is about. Above the fold (@1280x1024): - A brief area for explaining the purpose of the platform, - Dispatching points for the three stakeholders (Investors, Developers, Contractors) - A search section (search for projects) - Space for at least one testimonial Can be below the fold: - A showcase section to feature projects, and or investors - A promotional area to feature platform activities - News section (2) Description of content section of SEARCH RESULTS PAGE: The search results page lists the results of project searches, providing a search form, indicating the search criteria, filters for refinements, sorting possibilities Criteria for searches are: Energy source (solar/wind/hydro/biomass), Project type (Land, Rights&Systems, Installation), Country and Region, Project size (e.g. 10000kWp), Purchase or rent, Listing date, Price These criteria will likely be extended in the future The search results additionally to the mentioned criteria contain one or more photos, and a link to the project detail page. Below, there should be a section listing similar projects (which e.g. don’t meet all of the searched for criterias) The customer has to be able to save his search, and access previous searches For the first draft of the search results page, please also get an impression from: http://tinyurl.com/axtk97w We are looking to work with the winning designer after the contest is over for further pages, e.g. the customer area, the auction pages, etc
What to avoid
Consistent Cross-platform look&feel necessary => don’t use platform specific fonts etc. We require a very fast page loading speed => please design with the goal to have the resulting html/css/js code and frameworks including graphics not exceed 100KB Avoid a playful design
Great usability is the no#1 goal of the platform, the design should aid the usability. We’ll continue to work with the designer who gives us the impression of having great understanding of usability. Please keep in mind that words might be much longer in other languages (e.g. French) => please design e.g. the navigation bar with enough space. Consistent look across different platforms (desktop, tablet, smartphones), screen resolutions, and browsers is a must (see e.g. http://adblockplus.org/blog/new-adblockplusorg) => design suggestion will be checked at large screen resolutions (up to 1920 width) and small screen resolutions: please suggest whether you want your layout to expand to window width or remain centered at which width? Please show one element of the navigation bar in active state, with the navigational section opened. If you choose the login box to expand during login, please show opened and closed state The next pages which we’ll work on with the winning designer are the pages in the customer login area - we are looking forward to a long and lasting relationship with our new designer!
