Focus Network needed a new web page design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 183 designs submitted by 62 freelance designers.
ArtFlux - Urban Art Gallery
ArtFlux is an online art gallery specialising primarily in urban based art such as graffiti, stencil art and illustration, but also urban photography and political posters. There is a strong emphasis on cutting edge, contemporary art.
I have decided to widen the scope of the website so that it is more of 'community' site where artists can submit their work and get paid a commission. There will be extensive social interaction through Facebook integration of comments etc.
Primarily, though, the website is an e-commerce site where buyers can browse images and then purchase them on a range of canvas, acrylic and metal products.
I am targetting people who are interested in purchasing canvas art. The target audience is United States, United Kingdom and rest of Europe.
People who may not be looking specifically for canvas art, but are interested in graffiti, stencil art, urban culture and contemporary art should also be attracted to the site and hopefully consider making a purchase anyway after they have had a browse.
Sites that have had an influence over my decisions for the design and functionality of the site, include:
http://www.eyestorm.co.uk
http://www.threadless.com
http://www.society6.com
http://www.missionbicycle.com
http://www.bridge55.com
Site was recently redeveloped onto Magento, but I am not happy with the redesign. See http://www.artflux.com
I have attached a number of items that will assist in the design and I encourage you to download all of them. Attached is a mock-up I have created of the homepage with how I envisage the various elements, but I am open to a complete reinterpretation of this as long as the majority of the sections shown are included.
The homepage should be very clean and visual. A visitors first impression should be that the site is more of an 'online gallery' of artwork to browse, rather than an e-commerce site.
The colour scheme of the site (background) should be predominantly white and the design should be optimised for 1024px + screen resolutions.
In the mockup I have included 'buttons' linking to the 3 most important areas of the site:
- Graffiti & Stencil Art
- Political Posters
- Urban Photography
These buttons should be designed properly and included in your design. See attached RAR files for images to use here.
There is also another button: 'submit', encouraging artists to send in their work for review.
Facebook integration will be extensive throughout the site, with 'Like' buttons, Facebook comments on the product pages and Facebook page feed on the homepage.
The winning designer will be invited to develop the design for the other site pages: category, product and site pages.
