Book cover design for a novel in a magical realism genre.

The authors briefly described the location from the book, and stated they would like a magic shop with various trinkets, potions, magic book and a cozy reading nook. I read parts of the book to better understand the general mood and to get the description of the location.

Normally, we start with an interview where I ask authors questions about their vision, background of the story (which remains confidential of course). This is to better understand the general vibe of the particular story, so that I can create a cover that evokes certain emotions, represents the locations and protagonists and so forth.

The process is fairly simple. After the interview, I explain from a professional's point of view what may or may not work.

Then comes a sketch, and the digital creation of the cover.

Throughout the process, I will show progress images so that the authors can confirm is the design going in the right direction.
