rwilliams Z got their new product packaging by running a design contest:
Package Design: Looking for our Go-To designer for many products to come.
Check out rwilliams Z's Product packaging contest…
We design and manufacture innovative electronic accessories for phones and computers. We will be exhibiting this product in CES and Macworld expos early next year. We will have a table in Showstoppers at CES where 1400 of the worlds top tech media will see it and if they like it will write about it. We are entering it in various competitions such as Last Gadget Standing, iLounge Best Of Show and others. This is to be going to retailers and online sales around the world. This is the second of the line up for our products. We will be introducing other innovative products the next which will be a bluetooth speaker in the same lines of quality as Bose. I am hoping to find a suitable supplier that is reasonably priced so that we can build a relationship of following up with packaging/literature and everything as we add new products. I think this is the key product that all other packaging will stem from as all our products are premium so need a premium package design, need consistency with the rest of our new product launches as well. I hope we don't need to go through this process for future product, but will find the Go-To company from now on. I want a person/company to handle it all and give our company/product lines in international feel of quality.
What's your vision?
We are looking for a package design for our new CableCore Hub. It is a hub designed for use with only the iMac computer. We think the packaging should be inline with other apple type products which by itself is an easy design (white box, clean simple layout, floating photo of the product etc.) But we are not Apple, we just need to fit into the apple environment. We need a little harder sell via packaging, or so we think. We think it needs to be in a box, not blister or other packaging, but could be open to an innovative idea. Unlikely it would have a window. Needs to have a hang tab we think, but not to interfere if setting on a shelf without using the hang tab. The box will be 21 X 22 X 7cm (W-H-D) One possible thought was using lenticular printing for the bottom half of the front surface. This hub which sits at the base of the iMac needs the consumer to see both sides and the front. So with lenticular label it could show all three sides while walking by it in the isle or when rotating the box side to side. It could increase the identification of each port without any one view seeing all the text needed. I think this label could set in an embossed area of the box for a clean smooth feel across the surface. I would like to stay away from the extra cost of this, but seems very dynamic to show off the sides of the unit and grab the peripheral vision of consumers walking down the electronic store isle. (Or i just am fascinated with lenticular printing?) If you are using this technology, we need to see the three or more images which the lenticular image will morph into. For now you'll need to grab images off our web site. We will take more professional grade photo's in about a week or so when our latest prototype arrives in our office. I can then take whatever photo/angle you will want to finalise the design to the winner. It might also be possible to have this done for the finalists.
You can see the product at our web site icoregear.com. Our manufacturing office is in China, I live in China, however we also have a american office in my hometown. It will have an MSRP of $129. More details of the specifications of the product are also on the web site. Another potential business stream is the fact we make products for many companies looking for package design. We have made many kickstarter projects and if we can find a suitable artist that can work for a reasonable price, we will send others to you as well. Good luck/fortune everybody. Randy
