danno528 got their new poster by running a design contest:
Create Provocative cover art for an Earth-Shaking Podcast
Check out danno528's Poster contest…
It's a podcast about social change. The premise is that our civilization actively opposes and suppressed the thriving of life which has led to the myriad problems of climate change, economic inequality, international terrorisms, and countless other social and political problems that lead to suffering. But life inherently wants to thrive. Thus, to solve our problems, we need only break down those elements of our civilization that inhibit life from thriving. I'll interview people who are on the cutting edge of social change or otherwise intimately aware of the elements of our civilization that inhibit life. With these guests, we will seek to break down narratives or beliefs that are among those elements that inhibit life. In addition, we'll discuss institutional elements that need breaking down and discuss how we'll go about doing that.
What's your vision?
What I'm looking for is my cover art. What I envision is this: There will be a background image that is a photograph. It will show a single beautiful flower growing through a crack in the pavement--symbolizing the thriving of life once inhibitory structures are broken down. Then the name of the podcast/logo will be in front of said background. The name "Enlightened Destruction" will be forefront but will ideally not block the flower blooming image. "Enlightened" will be in a white, flowing, cursive style font-perhaps even glowing: eliciting ideas of enlightenment and a utopian ideal. The primary feeling is hope. "Destruction" will be in a blockier font. Perhaps cracks will be in the letters with red glowing in the cracks. The letters may be black or they may be a dark gray. Behind the letters, perhaps. Or perhaps somehow emerging from them. Like enlightment emerging from destruction, perhaps the image of a phoenix-symbolizing the renewal and strengthening of life through this act of destruction. I'm feeling this phoenix being yellow rather than the typical red. These are my ideas, but I'm not sure how to put them together, and I wonder if the motif of the logo will clash too much with the background itself-so feel free to be creative and experimental. Maybe the phoenix and the sprouting flower are too much to be combined-and one must be chosen over the other. Maybe the flower motif belongs in the logo itself, with a more plain background. I really don't know. This is where I'm trusting you. I'll be readily available to offer feedback on designs. I'm no expert at this kind of thing, so don't be afraid to do what you think is right. The most important thing to me is to communicate both the intensity and passion and darkness of the destruction AND the upliftment and peace and hope of the enlightenment. Hope in the midst of extraordinary darkness is the key sentiment I wish to communicate with the show-so make sure this is communicated clearly by the cover. In times as dark and dangerous as the one we live in now, hope must shine like a light piercing the dark. And one final thing: while the design itself I'd prefer as big as possible, at 3000x3000 pixels, the thumbnail artwork on Itunes for desktop and mobile is perhaps more important than how the full-size looks. This will be what people initially see, at 125x125 pixels on desktop and 55x55 on mobile. So make sure it still pops and is legible at those sizes.
A week from today, I go off-grid, so I'd like the design completed by then! Please communicate with me as much as you need-I'll be super available between now and then to talk. The images attached communicate the sort of images or motifs I'm attracted too. I found these all on google, so doubtful that any of them can actually be used, but I love the color on the dark background of many of them. It makes the plants look all the more heroic.
