Art & Design
Blue Bear School of Music, a music school in San Francisco founded in 1971, is dedicated to providing opportunities for students of all ages (from 4 mos – 100 years) to learn and play the music they love most, with a focus on rock, pop, jazz and blues. Blue Bear provides lessons and classes for toddlers, kids, teens and adults. San Francisco Bay Area residents, ages 18 – 88. Segments: Parents with children ages 4 mos – 5 years, interested in toddler classes Parents with children ages 6 -18 years interested in private lessons, after-school bands, etc. Young adults Middle-aged adults, who’s children may be older and may have more time for music Older adults, including recent retirees, who are looking for “projects” to fill their time.
What's your vision?
We need a design for our Winter course catalog that describes all our courses in voice, guitar, drums, bass, keys, ukulele, etc. The catalog will be 6" by 9", full color. Requirements: The Blue Bear logo. The title “2015 Winter Catalog” The subtitle “Classes, Workshops, Lessons” (commas not necessary) A photo (preferably the dominant element on the page - photo sample attached below). Tone: Rockin’ (This is a school of rock – the design should be fun and energetic, but it has to speak primarily to adults – not kids). Welcoming (We want people to look at the design and say “I want to go there. That looks fun – and I don’t feel intimidated!”) Authentic (The vibe of the school isn’t pretentious, and our instructors are working musicians. This is the real deal – the real school of rock.) A combination of photography/illustration may be used, but we’d like to maintain the ability to swap out a photo to change it up (we may use this design for multiple seasons). We’ve provided 3 photos: any or all may be used. If you only use one - please use the adult. We’d like to make use of texture, as well as some retro influences interpreted in a modern way. We don’t want the piece to look like it comes straight out of the 70s or 80s; it should be clearly “now.” We also like the use of different graphically layered elements. The school is based in San Francisco. It is a real San Francisco institution; bringing in elements of San Francisco’s architecture/history would be welcomed, but not required. The school does not have a current clear visual identity. The bumpers are off – we want to see a variety of ideas! Color palate is open - we don't want to look too "little kid-ish," so if you're using bright colors to convey energy, please balance them with texture/other elements as appropriate. ***Please note: We want this to be clearly not 80s, and the tone cannot be overly heavy/rockin'; we still need to convey welcoming and authentic!*** Thanks!
We are a rocking' school. The design should convey energy & movement; rock is passionate! Feel free to bring musical design elements into the design.
