Gumball Factory Sign
The Gumball Factory is a 100 year old building in East Boston. It was converted to Condos in the late 80's from its original candy manufacturing layout. Many of the units have exposed beams and brick walls. In recent year, the owners of the condos have collaborated to improve their building with jointly paid projects -- a new elevator, pointing all the bricks, new windows and a new entrance. The condo board would now like to have signage for the building.
There are two corners - Southeast and Northeast - that could have signs. The brick columns (see photo) are 60-inches wide on each face. Depending on the design, signs may be place on all 4 column faces.
The condo board likes the idea of a sign cut out of metal since this is compatible with the industrial look of the building. They have an acceptable quote from a local water jet cutting service for a 42-inch wide by 36-inch high sign made of 3/16-inch aluminum plate. The final design does not need to be these dimensions.
The goal of this design project is to get a good design that can be provided to the water jet company, and then installed by members of the condo board. Thus, letters such as 'A' need to have portions of the metal retained to support interior portions of the letter.

Walking and driving traffic. This is a side street in a gentrifying area where the top speed is 25 MPH.
The signs must be visible without lighting. The signs will be positioned on the brick with standoffs so light can flow through the cut out letters. The height of the standoffs is part of the recommendation from the designer. We have imagined that the standoffs might be 2-inches, and located in the four corners.
I have attached a crude mockup of a sign in both .doc and PDF. The designer can choose whatever font they want. The water jet firm will use the designer's PDF to prepare the machine cutting instructions.
