ssabo got their new app design by running a design contest:
Mobile app for patients recovering from surgery
Check out ssabo's App design contest…
Medical & Pharmaceutical
The app allows Patients to contact their Patient Navigator, to submit pain/symptom responses, to view upcoming appointments, and to review educational reference videos to learn more about their procedure and to support post-surgery recovery care.
We have developed two radically different design concepts (refer to attached wireframes), one very simple and one more complex. The target users for the app are elderly folks preparing for and recovering from surgery, so not tech savvy. The simple design is text-based with large buttons. The complex design is icon-based with more complicated navigation. We ask that the designers review the design concepts for context but please don't be constrained by them. We're interested in hearing what ideas you have for making the best, most intuitive design possible.
The attached wireframes represent a superset of all envisioned screens; however, for the purpose of this design contest we want the designers to focus on 5 primary screens: 1) Complex Design Concept: A) Home Screen: the user selects his procedure, views upcoming events/seminars and marketing content.(Navigation: Once the procedure has been selected, we employ an icon-based menu for other functionality such as viewing appointments, contacting the patient navigator, and viewing educational reference videos.) B) Recovery At Home Screen: the user views his exercises, medications, appointments, easily contacts the patient navigator, and has links to reference videos. C) Patient Navigator Screen: the user views his patient navigator bio, business hours, contact details, and has the ability to report pain/symptoms (see 2B). 2) Simple Design Concept: A) Home Screen: the user clicks large buttons to view appointments, view exercises, view medications, contact the patient navigator, or submit pain/symptoms responses. The navigation workflows are text-based rather than icon-based and overall much simpler. B) Wellness Survey: the user reports pain/symptoms and can attach a photo for supporting evidence.
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. App design starts at NOK 5,299.

And then… they selected a winner!
I chose to wait and review Shweta only once our design was complete. I had a general idea of what I wanted and Shweta was able to make it come to life. She followed my instructions well and provided multiple design iterations until I was fully satisfied. Currently, Shweta is working with my developer to implement our design. Great work. Timely. Creative. And easy to communicate with.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
