grau O got their new app design by running a design contest:
Insurance overview - bring style to personal finance

Accounting & Financial
“Versicherungsanalyse” is an application, that automatically and iteratively checks, whether kind and number of your private insuarances fit with your personal situation - based on data the user provided. The app is part of DIE GRAUE SEITE - a new document manager and personal finance portal.
Target Group: Private users, that like to save money by analyzing their actual insurance contracts and improve their risk coverage. The theme is about “security/insurance” and “saving money by choosing the best insurance that users really need. Style: We are looking for an app that has a clean and modern aesthetic,. The visual style of the app should also convey professionalism and trust. The App will be accessible from the web page http://diegraueseite.de. It is one of many functions of that page and may or may not use an entirely different style.
Attached below you see three “screenshots” that show the envisioned elements of the application. The screenshots have been generated from a real prototype. New elements that will be added in the new version are drawn onto it. All three screens share a common title (german: Versicherungsanalyse) and a list tabs that get you into the different sections of the app. The first tab is the dashboard (german: Übersicht). It summarizes your personal insurance coverage or potential misallocations. The consecutive tabs show details about different categories of insurances. The main view is shown in shot1.png. It has two areas. Left you see a table with detailed information about your insurance status. Right you see a framed box showing personal data (here it shows your risk preference). In the framed box you see a link to the “data safe” an external application for changing your data. The data safe can be opened with the data safe icon and allows you to edit your data. The design of the icon can be changed, but should keep the character of a black safe in front view. Next to the safe is text that explains the icon. It says: change data. The left table has three columns. The first column shows the insurance category and can be clicked to get you directly to the corresponding tab. The second column indicates the order of magnitude for the financial damage caused by the insurable risk. (This number depends on your data, e.g. value of your car, etc). Currently, a number of digits visualizes the cost of damage in euros. The third column shows the status. It might be in ok or not-ok state. Additionally, there can be brief indicators that summarize the reason for the state (e.g. overinsured (“überversichert”), underinsured (“keine Absicherung”), too expensive (”zu teuer”), etc.) The two screens in shot2.png and shot3.png show detailed views for a specific category of insurances. Both views (and all the other unshown views) are very similar. Each screen features a frame that shows data from your “data safe” and a section with results. The data safe can again be opened with the “data safe” icon or the explanatory text, here: add an insurance. The result section consists of a status message that can be red or green. A textual recommendation (german: Empfehlung) gives details about what you should do. A final section of further information (german: Weiterführende Informationen) provides links to third party pages.
