How Belinda Smart started their logo design journey
My name is Belinda Smart. I run my own freelance writing business from home - offering writing, editing and communications services. My work covers journalism for titles such as Australian Creative, Australian Financial Review and Ragtrader, the fashion industry magazine. I also ghost write for a number of clients in the corporate sector - from advertising agencies to fashion houses and business consultants. I offer clients well crafted copy characterised by creative flair and am able to distill complex ideas into accessible, elegant text.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
My target audience spans magazines, newspapers, media organisations and businesses in need of fast, professional writing, editing and communications services.
The name Smartwriting should speak for itself... please, no lightbulbs, speech bubbles or quill pens!
I'd like a logo that's simple, yet witty, fun and sophisticated, without being brash or cartoonish. The logo should have a strong design element and a sense of elegance. It should be smart/cool rather than boring/corporate
Designs using different fonts (for example a contemporary font for 'Smart' and an old fashioned typewriter font for 'writing' are of interest.
Also those using a 'drawn' feel - perhaps using a single line to write the name smartwriting (!) are of interest. I like the idea of a messy ball of line that then resolves itself into the logo.
In terms of colour, I Iike eggshell blue, teal, ochre, deep red or burnt orange and taupe. Alternatively black and white (or eggshell blue) with a single, bright dot of colour such as red.
