Sandy Hook Elementary School Memorial Tree Fund
Newtown Forest Association Sandy Hook School Memorial Tree Fund
The NFA, along with our entire Newtown community grieves along with the Sandy Hook Elementary School families for the tragic events of December 14th 2012. The Newtown Forest Association (NFA) was honored to have hosted the temporary memorial located on our Glen property in Sandy Hook Center. The NFA has established the Sandy Hook School Memorial Tree Fund (the “Fund”) to support the creation of a living memorial with plantings in memory of the Sandy Hook Elem entary School victims. Support for this initiative has been overwhelming. To date, nearly $300,000 has been pledged or received from across the nation.
The NFA is honored to be able to be a part of the healing process from this terrible tragedyand to be involved in a future living memorial(s). We can think of no greater living tribute to the victims and the people of Newtown, than help create a quiet, peaceful place, in our wonderful town, for meditation among native trees and flowering shrubs.
The Newtown Forest Association, 501(c)3 non- profit organization, is the oldest private land trust in Connecticut. NFA is dedicated to preserving open space and natural resources in Newtown, for the benefit of the community and all nature lovers. Currently, more than 1,100 acres are preserved through NFA stewardship, thanks to the support of membership dues and generous donors. The NFA cooperates with but operates independently from the Town of Newtown and receives no funding from the Town.
Things to also consider when designing:
We don't love our main Association logo, so don't necessarily try to work off of that.
We DO want a tree to somehow be included; perhaps an evergreen (to connote permanence, eternity).
Other concepts to keep in mind: hope, growth, rebirth.
Bright in spirit, yet strong.
Needs to be fun, yet imply that the Fund is a good, stable cause to donate to.
