esQay Inc. - Professional Tools for Software Test Engineers
Our new startup is called esQay Inc. The name is an inside joke for QA people; if you say it a certain way, it spells out S-Q-A. I usually pronounce it "S-quay".
We're building a Test Case Management System that will be offered as a web-based tool (SaaS, if you must).
1. Professional Test Engineers (i.e. someone with the primary job function of testing software). These are the Users.
2. VP of Engineering or Directory of Quality. These are the Buyers.
A logo for the company esQay Inc. The logo will determine the look at feel for the company and the product, because we haven't chosen any colors or fonts yet.
"The Tool I'm building" is to a Software Test Engineer as:
Photoshop:Designer
IDE or Text Editor:Programmer
Light Saber:Jedi
Bicycle:Lance Armstrong
Calculator:Accountant
You get the idea.
Should scale from the favorite.ico to a 1/4 page or so (or variations, but recognizable ones are fine). Just keep it in mind.
I would like to evoke:
The professional aspect of this tool
The personal relationship between tool and user
Many of my competitors are large companies, like HP, IBM and Borland. Their offerings are huge, comprehensive, super-expensive -- and, generally old and not state-of-the-art.
I want to stand apart from this group with something more... well, I don't know. But good luck!
