Shepherd Family Farms
We are a large family that runs a startup farm providing all-natural products including pastured (raised on grass fields, not confined buildings) chickens and turkeys, raw honey, free-range eggs (full-time outdoor access and pasture grazing). In the future we may provide additional products such as beef, pork and kiwifruit or non-food items such as soap, candles and maybe even Christmas trees!
Our desire is to not only provide our community with healthful, sustainable agriculture products but to build relationships with those people around us as well.
Our products are considered "Premium" in that they are typically more expensive than what is found at the local grocery store or monster retailer (when price alone is compared). However, our products are grown in an all-natural environment (but not Certified Organic) with all-natural feed, and our animals are well-cared for and treated humanely.
Our target audience includes the end-user or consumer and NOT a store. In other words, we are in the retail farm business and not the wholesale business. Audience members include:
- Health conscious consumers
- People who love to cook
- High-end consumers
- High-end restaurants
- Farmers markets
- Those who appreciate natural foods, sustainable agriculture and responsible farming.
Watch "Food Inc.". We are an alternative to the Big Food Business.
We desire that the logo be fresh, crisp and classy. We want a stylish vintage farm/retro 50's kitchen look. Elegant but fun. Fun but elegant.
One idea we like is that of a crate/wood fence, distressed print/paint feel. (But please don't feel limited to this. We're open to ideas, as long as they follow the basic guidelines we're giving.)
Something important to keep in mind is that we do not want a particular animal, plant or product to be the one central theme, since we are actively expanding the products our farm offers. (Don't want to box ourselves in.) If you do include some of our products in your logo (chickens or a beehive, etc.), they should be peripheral and not iconic.
Words that describe what we're after:
- Invigorating
- Fresh
- Friendly
- Grassy
- Trees
- Pasture
- Healthy
- Clean
- Colorful
- Child-Friendly
- Vintage/Retro Country! (40s, mostly 50s)
Specific things to NOT include:
- No barn
- No silo
- No tractor
- No farm trucks
- No photographs
- No stock images or clipart
- No fat, curly 70's fonts
- No cutesie animals or silly cartoons
Colors:
Color is great! Think of 50s color schemes. We also like combos of blue, green and earth tones.
Fonts:
Must be vintage fonts. We like masculine vintage fonts or cursive, forward-slant retro fonts.
Fonts MUST be easy to read and scale well as our logo will be used for everything from large banners and t-shirts to flyers and business cards. Components of design need to translate well to a website.
