sameoldmike got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Logo for an evolutionary genomics museum/university research group
Check out sameoldmike's Logo design contest…
We are a research group based at a natural history museum (within a university). Our research applies genome sequencing to ancient specimens (archaeological bones, teeth, etc.) and historical naturalist collections (e.g. 18th-century mounted botanical collections like dried plants, formalin-preserved animals in jars, anthropological objects) to tell fascinating stories about the evolution and biodiversity of plants, animals, and people that died long ago, as well as the microbes they carried in their bodies. The logo will be used on a project website for the general public to learn about the science we are doing, as well as in our social media presence (Twitter/Facebook). Key words to inspire the design: DNA, evolution, genomes, genetics, biodiversity, microbiota (bacteria, fungi, viruses), biogeography, bones, museum collections. It would be important to include multiple botanical/zoological/microbiological/genetic/biological elements to show the diversity of what we do here at Holomuseomics. Also I think it would be nice for the typography to somehow differentiate between "Holo" and "museomics" as it is a big/complex word. You can see some inspirational photos and text at our website: https://www.ntnu.edu/museum/holomuseomics#/view/about
Other color requirements
I’m open to ideas on the type of logo that’s best for my brand. Attached I include a logo from a collaborating group, called the Centre for Evolutionary Hologenomics, which does very similar work, although we focus on using museum specimens. I like their logo a lot. Also attached are some photos of the types of museum collections that are the starting point of our research.
