Otto Schmitz needed a new logo design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 135 designs submitted by 46 freelance designers.
Want to use this logo on coffee and espresso cups in an existing pizzeria. Logo also needs to be able to translate to a small exterior neon sign so the basic elements of the logo need to be translated well in a small environment.
I am thinking of something as simple as a pudgy italian man smelling (and enjoying) a smoldering cup of coffee. Feel free to explore other ideas but I like ideas that play on romantic and timeless themes.
Please don't consider your local urban hip coffee shop when designing this logo. I am looking for something more classic than hip.
Imagery of a person with a cup of coffee highly preferred over small icons of a coffee cup with text. I am not so concerned with the text as an appealing graphic that conveys the sentiments I am tried to outline above.
Someone mentioned using old Italian and french posters from the 20s-40s. I think using some of these elements would be great. Here is a page of posters that I really like:

The top 6 are great except the Coke poster.
