Picolenicole got their new logo design by running a design contest:

We are Lutheran Church in Richmond, VA. We have a blended traditional service, and we are open to people of all ages, races, and lifestyles. Our members are from the city of Richmond and surrounding areas.
Logo types to explore
Please review 'Logo contest results_edited.docx'. We held a logo design contest in the Fall of 2012, and collected "ideas" from the congregation. Many of our members liked the idea of using the church building in the logo because our building is very beautiful, and it is on a prominent corner (Monument Avenue and Lombardy Avenue) in Richmond, VA. We want to create a more simplified logo for use on the internet and in print materials and create new, updated look for the church. The logo should reflect that we are an active church, both with our congregation members and active in the community. We want to appeal to singles, young couples, young families, while retaining our older members who may have a more traditional view of the church. Our church is like many churches in a city-center location. The included images (Logo_1.jpg, Logo_2.jpg, Logo_3.jpg, Logo_5.jpg) received the highest votes. The images were presented to show concepts for use on letterhead and business cards, but we are not requesting formats in this contest (Logo_3p.pdf & Logo_5p.pdf). Additional images are included to help the designers create the design and for reference. Descriptions are provided below, for the other images included. Interior Stained Glass.jpg - This picture shows the "Luther Rose", which is an important symbol in the Lutheran religion. The Rose is featured on our front facade at the apex of the center arched, stained glass window Logo_2011.jpg - This is a picture of our current logo. It is a line drawing created by a member, and it does not work well when the scale is reduced because the detail is too fine to work on business cards and letterhead pjpink.jpg - This pictures shows the front facade of the church. Notice the Luther Rose at the top of the center arched, stained glass window 4132509332_745e6786c1_b.jpg - This picture shows another view of the front of the building. Logo contest results_edited.docx - This Word document summarizes the comments and feedback from our logo design contest scan0015.jpg - This is an early concept drawing for Logo_5.pdf, and it was well liked by our members. Logo_1976.jpg - This is a logo from 1976, with a more simplified building design. To provide a little insight about the congregation. The First English Lutheran congregation of German Lutherans started as St. Mark's Lutheran Church in 1869. As a sign of their commitment to ministry in the language of this country, in 1876 the members changed the name to First English. In 1911, the congregation moved to its current location at Stuart Circle on Monument Avenue. Our church supports inner city charitable organizations, such as CARITAS (which is a Richmond-area collaborative network of Congregations, volunteers, businesses, funders, service providers, and agency staff all working together to nurture persons who are in critical need of help, such as food and shelter) and the Conrad Center (a Richmond organization that provides food, shelter and the power to change for people in crisis). We are not sure how these important missions could be relayed in a logo, but are important organizations to FELC.
