How Stefan Wrobel started their logo design journey
smartvark (note all lowercase) is a mobile marketing platform designed to bring the best deals from local businesses to consumers' cell phones. We give the user a high level of control over the types of deals they receive so they don't feel like they're getting spammed. In case you were wondering, the name is a combination of the word smart with the animal aardvark.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Consumers (receiving deals): men & women under 30 in major metro areas (LA, NYC, SF, Chicago, etc)
First of all we want a mascot who is an aardvark that sniffs out the best deals for *you* so you don't have to find them yourself. We're imagining something cartoony and fairly simple. The logo must also contain the name smartvark (all lower) as well. Color scheme and font are your choice. If we like your aardvark there will be potential for creating a lot more collateral for our site, as we are going to brand everything with the aardvark.
We want to convey to consumers and businesses the fact that our service is:
-Easy to use
-A way to connect consumers and businesses, with substantial value for both (like yelp)
We do NOT want to convey that it is:
-An advertising platform (smartvark isn't a way for businesses to force their message down consumers' throats)
Also important to keep in mind:
-This will be a mobile app, so it must scale down well for the small screen
-This will also be a website, so it must scale up well (and work well for branding a full size site)
-Keep in mind that the logo will likely be made into an iPhone app icon
-The logo must contain the company name, smartvark.
-We have an anthropomorphic aardvark in mind with human traits that represent the "smartness" in smartvark. The aardvark is a savvy shopper, is probably holding a cell phone (most likely an iphone) and might be wearing clothes. However, I leave this up to artistic license.
