apmckinlay got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Design icons for a nature app
Check out apmckinlay's Icon or button contest…
We are designing an app that will be a guide to animals and plants, eventually covering all of Canada and the USA.
What's your vision?
We need a set of icons for our app. They should have a consistent style. The app is intended to be approachable, for a wide range of ages and types of users. It is intended to be accurate, but not scientific or super serious. The required icons are: location (e.g. map), birds, insects (e.g. butterfly), reptiles & amphibians (e.g. lizard), plants (e.g. flowers), and trees & shrubs. The example file is just some randomly grabbed sample images, it is not intended to be followed closely. We would like to keep the app simple rather than fancy. Colorful is ok. The icons should be recognizable, i.e. not too abstract.
They should be scalable for use on different devices, resolutions, and screen sizes. They should be simple enough to be recognizable at small sizes. They should not contain text. Probably square.
