One World Unity (oneworldunity.org)
One World Unity is a non-profit organization that seeks to give people in the US, UK, Canada and in other wealthy countries the opportunity to help children in need. OWU's mission is to provide educational necessities (school supplies, teachers salaries, teaching facilities) to the poorest communities in the world. Our first chapter is in Sierra Leone, a war torn country that was recently named by the UN the "least livable" country in the world. Through our work, Sierra Leonean teachers are paid to teach the poor. We believe that only through the power of education and the power of children can the poorest countries be transformed into more stable and more secure places.
The culture of our organization is one not of pity and charity, but one of respect, admiration, and investment. We do not think these children who are in hardship that most of us couldn't even begin to imagine should be pitied like many charitable organizations do. We believe that we should invest in the children and the futures of those countries. We don't want the children to learn and escape their country. We want them to learn and change their countries for the better of their countrymen. We don't just give. We help the disadvantage help themselves.
The target audience for this website are English speakers from wealthier countries. Our primary audience are young men and women between the ages of 21 and 30. These individuals are idealistic, they want to help, and they want to change the world, but they don't know how. They want to be a part of doing something great for their world. We don't want to simply collect small donations, we want to build a community of young people who believe in the transformative power of educating those who have nothing.
These individuals are highly active in social networks and many have their own website and blog.
The goal of this website will be 1) to collect email addresses from interested individuals, 2) to inform them about OWU and what it is doing, and 3) to collect donations.
The home page will be a squeeze page. On the left side there will be a video that explains our organization and encourages individuals to sign up to be a part of the organization. On the right side there will be an email opt-in box (that only requires an email, not a name). The navigation will lead to "About Us," "Our Work," and "News."
Most pages will have a sidebar that has an email opt-in form, but some will not have a sidebar and some will have a sidebar without the opt-in form. Design should work across each template style.
We will keep the same logo or a variation. The colors will be blue, white, and grey. I'd like the structure to somewhat mirror http://www.clay-collins.com and the attached "mock-up." I'm interested in a clean rather than complicated theme.
I'm not married to a specific idea. Please be creative. Thanks!
Will need layered PSD files for WordPress Template coding
I've attached a PPT that contains a "mock-up" landing page (for very rough look-and-feel) and logos with various components/versions. Please let me know if you need anything further.
