Help Our Charity Design a Really Attractive Bookplate

Building Better Libraries

We are the Better Libraries Together project of The Foundation for Lithuania’s Children. We receive donated academic books and place them with underfunded libraries in foreign countries, especially in Eastern and Central Europe. Once we establish a relationship with a library, we ask the library to consult with the faculty to develop an ongoing wish list of English language books. We undertake to supply those and do so without cost. We have a high success rate in providing requested books.

The project. An attractive bookplate for our charity.

We would like you to design a distinctive bookplate to be placed on the inside cover of academic books that our charity donates to small university libraries.

Qualities we are looking for in our bookmark. We are looking for a design that

- - is distinctive,

- - uses color,

- - has an artistic quality,

- - is easy to read, and

- - gives this book project a unique brand identity

We have a strong aversion to traditional bookplates, which we find to be flat, bland, and stuffy.

Our very preliminary thoughts on design. We want to make clear that we enlist your services because we want to take advantage of your creative talents. We do not have the creativity and skills to design a bookplate that meets our goals. We are depending on you for this, and we encourage you to allow your creative instincts to range broadly and freely.

We can give you an idea of the design directions that we have discussed internally. These are reflected in the attached document. It sets forth some design elements that we have found attractive and some that we find unappealling. We ask that you consult that document before you begin to create a design.

Size. The bookplates are to be 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide.

This is the third time our Foundation has used 99designs. We have had extremely satisfactory relationships with many talented designers in our prior projects. We are very impressed with the level of creativity that we have encountered here.
