Lucky to Live Hawai'i (subtitle: From Mundane to Magical – A Life Transformed)
Angela Leslee (and underneath that I'd like: A Memoir)
Angela is semi-retired from a 22-year career in teaching massage therapy. After creating three programs for Japanese students, she founded The Aloha Massage Academy in 2006. She can still be found in the classroom, but now spends more time adventuring, writing her memoirs and living off the grid in her Tiny Home in Hawai’i, with her little menagerie of animals.
“Where did you find the courage, the…” My student struggles to find the right word, frustrated by the limitations of language. Then he settles, “…the bravery to do what you did?” I look out at the ocean for a moment, then turn to him. “My desire to know myself was stronger than my need for security.” He smiles and nods – understanding passes between us, one seeker to another. (August 2022) Disillusioned with her life, Angela, a 40-something single mother, moves to the Big Island of Hawai’i in 1994 on a quest for more. As she scrambles to find her footing, she begins the process of reinventing herself. Along the way she encounters extraordinary people, explores remote places and swims with large sea mammals. And most importantly, she finds a life purpose she had nearly given up looking for. The adventures are epic and otherworldly in this exotic new land, rich with culture and history, even though the learning curve is steep. Angela’s transformation unfolds through hard work, manifestation and more than a little magic against the enchanting backdrop of Hawai’i.

Book cover type
The idea in my head is the ipu with the white lei around it offset towards the bottom right-hand corner. Simple background, possibly white, off white or 'crinkled white'. but somehow the white lei needs to not get lost in that. The title I would like the word 'Hawai'i' showcased (larger, different font etc.). Play with the colors for the lettering, I would love to somehow convey 'magic' in the cover. Colors need to be earth tones: Greens, browns, yellow/gold, orange, earthy reds...possibly blues On the back cover, I'm thinking to maybe separate the blurb from the bio with the horizontal, colorful lei - either straight or curved. Not sure if this will be too much or compete with the front cover...so it's just a thought. I'm basically looking for simple, elegant and magical. I would like my logo at the bottom of the spine (see picture above)
