zebslade got their new book cover by running a design contest:

I am a writer of Christian books.
What's your vision?
I am self-publishing a series of books for publication on Amazon Kindle and other e-readers. No physical books will (likely) be published. I haven't quite decided on the series title yet so I need help with the title as well as the book cover design. But the sub-title will be "Inspirational Scriptures, Quotes, and Prayers on __(topic)__". For example, the first book is "Inspirational Scriptures, Quotes, and Prayers on Forgiveness". Other topics will include Love, Faith, Family, Heaven, etc. The main title before the sub-title can be simple. I've considered something like "Slade's Inspirational..." sort of like the old "Bartlett's Familiar Quotations" books. Your suggestions are welcome. It is important that the design be repeatable for future books. I am looking for a "brand" design - think of the "Dummies" series - not the design itself (I do not want a yellow and black design please) but the way in which they easily repeat "__(topic)__ for Dummies" and people instantly recognize it. Readers will be mostly Christians and/or religious readers who are seeking inspiration and motivation. No cartoons, no crosses, no open Bibles, no sunsets - all of which are overdone in the market. I lean toward minimalist over ultra-busy. I am fine with distinctive colors - but nothing too gaudy. I prefer vintage over modern. The topic (in this case, Forgiveness) should have a somewhat prominent role in the title since each book will focus on one particular topic. Thanks so much for participating! I look forward to working with some great designers to come up with an awesome finished product. Good luck!

And then… they selected a winner!
Gordan designed my book cover. His design was in a group of about 50 submissions. It stood out among the rest of them and also mirrored my design brief. Working with Gordan is a pleasure on every level. He is a real pro. I can't recommend him highly enough. He deserves a perfect 10 score from me.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
