Art & Design
Target audience: women ages 17-35.
What's your vision?
I would like a cover for my fiction novel, which was just picked up by a small publishing house and will be available on Kindle, Nook, and Kobo this summer. The title is ND. The synopsis: the story of 3 women, from 3 different generations in present day, 1980s, and 1960s, and how their lives connected and wove through history to break cycles passed down from mothers to daughters. Themes are alcoholism, resilience, sacrifice, and redemption. I would like the cover to be overall light-colored (I have attached an image of The Lovely Bones cover, which I like the overall feel of), maybe green or blue or yellow or orange but not red or pink, with a faded (or high exposure) image of Russian with one tipped over if possible, but I am open to not having that image and seeing other ideas. Other possible images are tall grass with a woman's feet, or a jar of colorful jellybeans, maybe with some spilled out. I don't want a "busy" cover - I'd like something close to The Lovely Bones in its simplicity and "clean" look. I would like the title to be bold and possibly in white print over a color, and the words "a novel" included on the cover in a less-bold font, as well as my name - SF - on either the top or the bottom. The cover needs to be formatted as an e-book, appropriate for Kindle, Nook, and Kobo. The specifications for this are here: https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=A2J0TRG6OPX0VM Please make sure to include the grey border suggested if it is light colored so that it can be seen against the white of the Amazon site. Thank you for your consideration in this project! FOR FINALISTS IN THE ROUND: Please submit a second entry with a print jacket cover that includes the following synopsis, bio and author photo: Jacket Summary:
2007: Seventeen-year-old Valentine is barely getting by, spending the majority of her time, energy, and money caring for her younger brother, Jonathon. Her mother, Theresa, lives life recklessly, occasionally sobering just enough to see her children through glassy eyes. In search of a better life, Valentine gets half-way across the country only to receive shocking news from home, forcing her to turn the car around and face a life she never expected.
1989: Theresa, the privileged daughter of a small-town police chief and a strict, repressive mother, finds herself desperate when she lands in Los Angeles, 13-years-old, pregnant, and utterly without a clue. Life on the street is ten times meaner than she ever imagined, and as she struggles to get through each day, she holds on to the hope of finally getting herself back to her normal life of upper-class suburban bliss…if she can only make it out in one piece.
1965: Caroline expertly plays the part of doting wife to her popular police-chief husband, but behind the designer skirts and lipstick smiles lies secrets she can’t even admit to herself. After having two children, Caroline settles into the idea of living in a home with a man who terrifies her…only to have the love of her life show up on her doorstep, asking her to make a choice that will forever change her path and the women after her. Author Bio:
Salena Fehnel lives in the Poconos with her husband and daughter and their Great Dane. When the many women in her family aren’t driving her nuts, she loves them dearly. This is her first novel.
Attached is an author photo.
