Chriscoleman512 got their new book cover by running a design contest:
A book cover that can't be ingored for "Imagine Heaven"
Check out Chriscoleman512's Book cover contest…
Our client has published a number of successful Christian books (most notable “No Perfect People Allowed”) and needs a new cover for his latest and potentially commercially successful book. The titles is IMAGINE HEAVEN: Near Death Experiences, God’s Promises & the Exhilarating Future that Awaits You. The book targets ANYONE (particularly non-believers) interested in the topic of heaven or near death experiences (NDE) and here’s why he’s writing the book: "I find that most people, whether Christ-followers or not, have a horrible view of Heaven. At best it’s a cloudy, ethereal, disembodied, non-physical experience—yeah, maybe with love, joy, and no suffering sprinkled in—but if we’re honest, we don’t really get excited about it. We can’t imagine actually liking it. At worst, people think of it as an endless, boring church service, singing songs you’re not excited about—forever! That sounds horrible to me, and I’m a pastor! How you think about Heaven affects everything in life--how you prioritize love, how willing you are to sacrifice for the long-term, how you view suffering, what you fear or don’t fear. I’m convinced we can’t even begin—but we should try—to picture how magnificent, how spectacular, how much fun Heaven will be—how much of what we love about this life and more awaits us in eternity. As the scripture says, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9, NLT). But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t push our imaginations to the limit trying to understand. For the past thirty years, I’ve studied the Bible, the major world religions, philosophy, and multitudes of near-death experiences. I’ve concluded that the core common elements of near-death experiences (NDEs) are a gift from God to color in the picture revealed by the prophets and Jesus. I’m convinced a main reason many people (Christian or not) live materialistic, self-centered lifestyles is a poor view of the life to come. They can’t imagine Heaven, so they don’t live for it. But all the great heroes of faith “were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them” (Hebrews 11:16). Imagining and living for Heaven is not optional in God’s eyes—it’s the hope God wants us to hold in our mind’s eye. We have the ability to Imagine Heaven like never before, not only by using our God-given imagination based on scripture, but also our earthly experience (because God created this life too—His world is not less spectacular). And now modern medicine is bringing more and more people back from near death to give exciting details that can color in our picture of Heaven and motivate us to live with eternal perspective. And that’s why I’m writing this book."
What's your vision?
Heaven and Near Death Experience books is a very competitive space and especially so since the popular “Heaven Is For Real” book and movie. Who doesn't wonder or have questions about what happens when we die??? We need a cover design that DEMANDS ATTENTION in this crowded space, one that works well in both a Wal-Mart shopping aisle and in a smaller thumbnail sized image on Amazon.com. Our cover needs to stand out while still “belonging” in this category of books. (don’t read that to mean a “me too” design...how might we appeal more culturally relevant, current) Attached is example of popular covers in this space. Title [Imagine Heaven] is the focus and the design should be type-driven. Do NOT use a pastoral or nature scene. I'm doing this contest on 99Designs because the publisher provider cover design is boring. What cover would make you want to read this book? I've worked with creatives all my career and I encourage you to push the envelope. We need a cover that people can't ignore. Design Guidelines: Cover specs are 5.5” x 8.5”, plus 1/8 bleed • For production purposes, designs must be created using Adobe InDesign • Need high-res PDF file • All images should be 300 dpi at 100% • If using stock photography, please provide image rights and permissions information with submission Good luck! I look forward to working with you.
Please don't hesitate to ask if I can answer any questions. Here's a link to other book covers in this category that this publisher did: http://bakerpublishinggroup.com/search?terms=heaven
