I am self-publishing a book, BEHAVECON, on the implications of behavioral economics on personal finance. CONTENT SUMMARY If you want results today, take BEHAVECON on a journey through the study of human decision-making - applied to the field of personal finance. Along the way you will discover your precise financial condition and the hidden drivers that got you there. This landmark book has you understand how to make smarter decisions and implement the behavioral changes necessary to take your finances and happiness to a new level. Based on decades of research behavioral economics provides an easy way to make decisions that work for you. And it is all right here in this book. In step-by-step tutorials you will learn to - attain 100% understanding of your finances - unload the burden of debt - free hidden wealth that you already have - explore lifestyle fasting and step out of the consumer “matrix” - learn to break the glass ceiling that prevents the middle class from striking it big After reading this you will be able to unleash financial prowess like never before. TARGET GROUP: - more masculine than feminine - primarily 20-35 year old - college educated or more - looking for luxury, independence, strength MORE DETAILS A website to promote the book is currently being designed. It is still in private beta but you can access it through http://dominik.it-mittelstandsberatung.de to get an idea of what the book will be about. (I am not 100% happy with everything on there, but I think it should give you a good idea.
What's your vision?
A revealing personal finance guide book needs a well-converting cover for ebook and print edition (front, spine, back). DELIVERABLE Adobe Illustrator file as well as a Photoshop PSD. This book is 5.25" x 8" and about .7075" thick. The thickness might vary a bit as it is currently being formatted, so your design should be adjustable without too much hassle. Please see the cover template (from Amazon CreateSpace) attached and ensure for the appropriate space for bleed etc. Details can be found at https://www.createspace.com/Products/Book/CoverPDF.jsp. Your file should be ready to upload, without me having to make further changes. GENERAL I like minimalist designs, sketches and graphics. No photos or elaborate paintings please. As I have applied very high standards of editorial quality to the book, I would like this to be reflected by a strong cover. Additional: I am looking for own creative material instead of stock material as I am looking for something original and unique. Initially, I will also rate stock image based submissions to give you an indication of what kind of images I like. Please feel encouraged to build your own graphics. It will be honored. COLOR A color scheme similar to that of the former USA Today, Fisher-price toys or Apple iOS 7. Bold colors combined with white, that make us remember the trusting times of our youth. (You are going to decide the final colors with your cover and the website will be adjusted accordingly.) VALUES Money is usually a sensitive subject for many, so I would love to see the cover as something that feels open, warm and embracing when you see it. People reading this book are either in trouble or want to do better. Therefore, the cover should express hope. FRONT COVER As this is mainly sold as ebook, the cover needs to work well in AppStore size. Very detailed graphics probably wont work. Instead a book cover that converts well is key. Icons should be fine as well. I may still change the text, so keep the amount/type of text somewhat flexible. Also feel free to suggest changes to the text if you come across a great idea. Remember to leave some room for the barcode. Based on current designs, here is an update: Let me give you all some general feedback. There have been many good design and I am sure that we can lift a few to great and one to outstanding! As you review the following, please do not simply plagiarize things you see from other designers, but be inspired and try your own. You will be disqualified like #84, who was copying #52. Color: I like the color schemes used in the following: #143, #97, #32, #7, #51 - shiny and bright as well as #172 secretive yet bright and red (pulls men) like #121 and #156 Some red would be great on the book, at least a sticker on the front BEHAVECON-title good solutions: gradient in the E in #143, #171 including the „ioral“ „omics" in #52 black box in #8 - although I would not want it to end after the E but rather right on the E. large V adds an interesting twist - #52 Visual inside the O: #129 Visuals: Good original art: - #97 (with the head possibly a little too busy) - paper effect as in #163 (could be better if cut though the E) or even 167 (which might be pushing it) - compass #152 (if it is truly original) is a good idea - #123 although the face looks a bit to stern. Could it be more successful/facing upward? Nice stock art that can be used as a source of inspiration: - #32, #7 (but without a large arrow facing down), #4, #77, #47, #160 No guys in suits please Please think again, how you can include the multiple dimensions of the book into one visual. It starts with decisions and you get rich (not only in a financial sense). Please see the HOW IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE section on the promotion site http://dominik.it-mittelstandsberatung.de Claim: I like the claim in #97 although it might be too busy depending on the overall composition. Also good is #7 and #161, #149 Text: All text should be in caps. Spine: Please ensure enough space between spine and front cover text or visual to ensure nothing important gets printed into the fold. Should have same color(s) as front. see #32 or #51 or #9 Cleanliness: I like clean designs like #161, #172, #149, 32, #7, #156, # 149 Rating info: All the positively mentioned above are rated at least 2 stars. Everything else is one star or removed.
Since this design may be repurposed in many ways (logos, web banners, different sized books, etc.), the final design needs to be provided in a way that makes it easy to alter or adjust. Information such as fonts, colors, background images, etc. should be given so we can make adjustments as necessary. All of the above are just guidelines. If you can think of a great cover that does not comply with them, give it a shot. I will give you some feedback. I am always open to new ideas! Good luck!
